VEYLA NATAI RESIDENCES
In 2018, we were invited to work on landscape design and installation art for residential develoment in Phang nga, Southern part of Thailand. We combined landscape design and installation art to explore the relationship between humans and nature.
There are only 15 units with public facility; central swimming pool and fitness pavilion.
We started with research. The project is located along the beautiful beaches of southern Thailand. Our focus was on incorporating the natural features of the area to create a contrast with the digital era's way of life.
For landscape design layout, we drew inspiration from the watermarks left by the waves on the sandy beaches. These marks became the guiding lines for the landscape design. They blend the horizontal lines of the beach seamlessly into the overall design, creating a harmonious connection with the surrounding nature in a simple and integrated way.
The watermarks are reflected in the spatial arrangement, pathways, and even the feature walls of each villa.
Each piece of artwork is carefully designed to be part of the landscape design in each villa. They provide a space for people to pause, reflect, and connect with themselves.
One specific artwork is called "Archaeology of the Sea" located by the central swimming pool. It's a pixel wall installation that reflects the natural surroundings. Some of the pixels are made from objects found on the beach, both natural and man-made. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the relationship between humans and nature.
In my opinion, this artwork could serve as an archaeological artifact in the future, reflecting how we lived and the impact we had on the surrounding nature.
For "Archaeology of the Sea", the goal is to provoke awareness and encourage contemplation of our relationship with nature.
