WUHAN PATH, THE DRAGON BRIDGE

Wuhan, one the most ancient and civilised Metropolitan city in China, has been witnessed several turning points of Chinese history from the battle of red cliffs (one of the most famous battles in Chinese history), the second opium war, Wuchang uprising (the starting point of Chinese revolution) and the battle of Wuhan (a large scale battles of the Second Sino-Japanese War. in 1938, Wuhan became a major Japanese logistics centre for operations in southern China) until present day. The modern Wuhan city has been developed from natural landscape, empirical planning, major port city, a centre of art(poetry) and intellectual studies until the western influence landed on the main land. With the rich in culture and a long history, the city is now on the transition, a conversion to modern metropolitan city.

From “Eco-Expo, Green Life” the theme of the 10th Garden Expo, the balance between Nature and Human has been reconsidered and explored their relationship from the past. While the east concerned about living in harmony with nature in the past, the west tried to over rule the nature with new order and development. Modernization and Civilization has been regarded as organised populated settlements and a developed city. At the age of globalisation, the modernity has influenced and defined the look of every modern metropolitan cities and their urban planning, while the characteristic of vernacular town are decreasing and the balance between Nature and Human has been altered. Local people are in the transition stage of embracing the new with the balance.

“The Dragon Bridge” is created in the meaning of conversion; the bridge of transcendence, the bridge for open-ended imagination. The silhouette shape of the bridge was use as the symbolic of connecting the past and the present, the old and the new, Human and Nature. The meeting point between the past and the present, allows the space for thinking and contemplation. The silhouette shape of the bridge was levelled up and act as a terrace garden, which allow people to wander, rest, contemplate and get a better view at the highest point. The dragon bridge contains different images on both sides.
